(0)
Lesson resources to teach Health and Safety in the Design Technology workshop, including signage, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), Risk Assessment and hazard identification. The pages provided cover common D&T signs and the recognized colour classification for them. It also covers the correct use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and asks students to identify hazards or risks in a picture of a workshop. It also gives students blank Risk Assessment sheets to fill in for a Pillar Drill, Coping Saw and Belt Sander. All pictures are hand drawn and in black and white to make printing easier and more cost effective. This resource could be used as a stand alone lesson (achievable in approx 1hr 45mins with Yr7) or as part of my “Literary Themed KS3 Design and Technology” suite of lessons.

This KS3 Design Technology project is to give students in Year 6, 7 or 8 an introduction to DT, designing and making. The project starts by making a simple pencil holder to give the students some hands on experience with tools before designing their final item. The final outcome for this project is a jigsaw made from plastic inside a wooden frame. It introduces the use of coping saws, tenon saws, bench hooks, hand sanding and packaging. It includes homework on key aspects of knowledge including plastics and woods. Included are: Workbook including homework, design pages and instructions for making. Presentation in pdf format to use on the projector to show instructions for making. Packaging in pdf format to print on A3 card.

Material Sources Flashcards

(0)
These flashcards contain 24 common materials used in Design Technology and on the reverse the source of the materials. These can be used either way round i.e. show the students the material and get them to guess the source, or show them the source and get them to name the material. This download is in pdf format so they can either be printed or used on any PC or Mac as digital flashcards either for students personal use or as class resources.

Health and Safety Worksheets and Activities - Full Set

(0)
Health and Safety is a key part of design technology lessons and these resources help make the subject fun, informative and interesting. These worksheets provide fun activities for any class to complete. They include physical activities for students to do as well as worksheets for students to work through. They are clean colour pdf’s available to print and use time and time again with classes. The resources include; Signs The first worksheet asks students to look at a range of signs and decide on the colours and shapes each sign should be based on the information provided. The second worksheet asks students to place a range of signs in suitable locations around a workshop. I have also supplied answers sheets so they know what colour each should be. Personal Protective Equipment - PPE This is a worksheet aimed at making “Health and Safety” as fun as possible. It allows students to dress up in various PPE suited to a range of activities and discuss why they wear what they wear. I have also provided an answer sheet to give what the students should wear and why. Risk Assessment This worksheet asks students to complete a number of risk assessments on a range of commonly used machines within the design and technology department or common workshop. Risk assessments are specific to location and type of machine so I have not provided an answer sheet as these assessments should be more about the process and the questioning of processes rather than a false belief that there is a definitive “correct” answer. My iBook provides videos and instructions as to how to complete a appropriate risk assessment. COSHH These two worksheets ask students to identify and complete a range of globally used symbols used for the identification of substances hazardous to health. The second worksheet then asks students to think about how these substances may be stored in a safe manner. An answer sheet is provided. The iBook to accompany these resources, “Health and Safety in Design Technology” which includes all worksheets as well as interactive games, interactive presentation pages and videos is available from iTunes for Mac users or iPad users by following this link https://goo.gl/YHOkLg

AQA GCSE Product Design Student Guide

AQA GCSE Product Design Student Guide

(2)
This student guide to the controlled assessment (coursework) section of AQA GCSE Product Design is my best selling (or rather most downloaded - as it's free) iBook publication and it is now available for download as a pdf. It covers all aspects of the coursework and offers exemplar work for each section of the marking scheme. It is suitable for student use or as a class resource for independent learning or as teacher led presentations. The iBook version is available through iTunes free to download which has some added interactive features not available in this pdf. This version still contains good quality exemplars from previous students and detailed information about how to access the higher marking criterion for each section. Hope it is of use!
